2012 24 Hour Playwriting Invitational

THEATER HISTORY TO BE MADE ON A HISTORIC STAGE…

Two 501c3 not-for-profits working together to benefit the community

On Saturday, September 15th at 7:00 pm Ten BucksTheatre will host the results of its first 24 Hour Playwriting Invitational. This event will be a fundraiser for the Eddington Clifton Civic Center (Comins Hall).

The event really begins on Friday evening when over 30 actors, directors, writers, and technicians from Ten Bucks, Bangor Community Theater, Orono Community Theater, Meeting House Theatre Lab, Nokomis High School, the University of Maine, and some artists new to local audiences gather to break into teams that will spend the next 24 hours writing (coached by Eddington resident, playwright, and author Bruce Pratt), casting, memorizing, and staging 5 original short plays. There will be 4 adult teams and a 9 member youth team.

The public is invited to view the results Saturday night. These world premiere pieces will be presented on the historic 101 year old McGinley Family Stage in the equally historic 133 year old Shaw Auditorium. Families of all ages will enjoy the show!

Admission is a suggested $5 per person donation and the box office opens at 6:00 p.m. Concessions will be available at modest prices.

The Eddington Clifton Civic Center (Comins Hall) is located at 1387 Main Road (Route 9) in East Eddington. (Just west of Route 46)

This event was conceived by Ten Bucks Theatre as a fundraiser for the Eddington Clifton Civic Center and as a way to increase awareness of and promote cooperation between area theater groups. Ten Bucks has made its performance home at Comins Hall since the spring of 2010. While both the stage and auditorium are ‘jewels of their time’, the TBT Board and ECCC Board have targeted various improvements that should be made. Ten Bucks decided that they would like to do a fundraiser with all monies raised targeted specifically to enhancing the performance space. The Eddington Clifton Civic Center is excited to be the site of an event that should become a yearly opportunity for theater groups in the area to reach new audiences and is grateful for the hard work of Ten Bucks Theatre members in mounting this event.
